How can I work a theme into my wedding?
First try to work with a theme that doesn't require a lot of explanation and is not offensive.

Be realistic about your expectations. You will not be able to have a pet theme that includes having your pet(s) at the ceremony or reception. Pets require care, they would be subjected to unfamiliar surroundings and unfamiliar people, and many people today are allergic to animals.

Most often themes involve an era, (roaring 20's, 50's, renaissance, etc) Sometimes it involves destinations, songs, seasons, objects such as bears, dolphins, cars, broadway shows, movies, sports, etc

You can usually incorporate your theme into your invitations, favors, table centerpiece, cake design, programs, menu cards, place cards, and table cards.

For instance as a beach theme you can find invitations with a beach theme. Favors can be a child's sand pail filled with chocolates, cookies, and candy or beach items such as suntan lotion, sunscreen, snacks, flip flops, and sunglasses.

Your place cards can be attached to cocktail drink umbrellas and place upright in a bed of sand. Then make table names of famous beaches around the world.

Always check with the reception site location about any concerns they may have about the use of certain items. Often confetti type decorations are not permissible because it is very difficult to clean up. Also keep in mind safety. You want your guests to have a good time but you don't want them to slip on soap bubbles, rice or any other potentially dangerous items.

Brainstorm with your bridal party and family to pull together your theme. Have fun!
